Jack,

REITS are considered value stocks too. They have high yields and low p/e. Value stocks have been outperforming growth by a staggering margin over the last yr.

I have an interesting chart in a magazine here that shows a 15 yr. history of value stocks vs. growth. The trends are interesting. Generally when one exceeds the other by the amount they currently are separated- the trend continues for at least a few years.

If anyone has a similar chart, maybe they could link it. Here's a bastardized version of growth vs. value over the past year, taking a REIT as value, and the NDX as growth:
