And this week, not a day went by without another profit warning.

According to First Call Thomson Financial,
S&P 500 earnings are expected to contract
both this quarter and next... adds that in
the technology sector things look even worse.

Joining us now, Chuck Hill, director of research for First Call.

... we're well on the way to setting a new record
for negative preannouncements.

... running 37 percent ahead of the record setting pace
in the fourth quarter...

... on the tech side of it, we're running 79 percent
above where we were in the record setting fourth quarter.
