<<We know that most phone and data transmission services suck and need to improve before the phone companies begin to make money again. Therefore they need to improve their networks. How do they do that? They upgrade current equipment or buy new improved equipment. >>

Kv, where are they going to get the money? Are you going to lend it to them, at junk bond rates? Many of the wireless providers are losing money and all of them are saddled with huge debt. The long distance co's are barely profitable at this time and they are saddled with huge debt. Lots of the LECs will be out of business by the end of the year.

On another thread last summer I posed the following question: "With all the cap ex spending telcom co's are doing on all this whiz bang technology, why can't any of them make a decent profit? And why are their stock prices in the toilet? Why does all this capex spending give the telcoms no differentiation from each other in the eyes of consumers?"

I have never gotten any convincing answer, and my question stands!

<<I'd like to see how many SUV's are being sold relative to 99/early 00,>>

I just read that either Ford or GM is closing a big SUV lant and laying off the workers. I think part of the problem is the glut of perfectly good used cars and SUVs coming off leases. The boom in leasing over the last decade has steadily increased the pool of good late model used vehicles available.
