Singapore to decide on 3G auction by 11 April
By Reuters staff

30 March 2001

Singapore's Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) said on Friday it had confirmed four bidders for its four third-generation (3G) mobile phone licences and would decide by April 11 on the need for an auction.

The auction is set for April 23 but the IDA has said it may not need to proceed if bidders choose different spectrums. The four qualified bidders must submit their initial offers and bank guarantees to the IDA by April 9.

They are Hong Kong's Sunday Communications Ltd's Sunday Holdings (Singapore) Corp, MobileOne (Asia) Pte Ltd (M1), Singapore Telecom Mobile Pte Ltd - the mobile arm of Singapore Telecommunications - and StarHub Mobile Pte Ltd.

M1 is a venture between Keppel Telecommunications & Transportation, Singapore Press Holdings, Cable & Wireless and Pacific Century CyberWorks.

The StarHub consortium comprises Singapore Technologies, Singapore Power, British Telecommunications Plc and Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.
