Tony,

Mike Magee has Intel releasing 1.7 GHz P4 in mid-April.

He also had AMD releasing a Sledgehammer last Christmas.

Tony,

re: "John, Mike Magee has Intel releasing 1.7 GHz P4 in mid-April."

At this point, I hope Intel can really push the envelope as far as MHz. They need to make all those 500 MHz chips look slow, and get folks to upgrade.

I saw a 1.3 GHz system from Gateway advertised in the WSJ last week for ~$1300 w 17 inch monitor. Not bad.

Intel isn't advertising Penium 4 for it's "net advantage". I'm surprised, it's still the image focused "Blue Man" stuff. I'm not willing to second guess them at this point.

It seems like MSFT/INTC might be in cahoots to push for a strong 4th quarter, with P4 upgrades coupled with XP. I guess that's what I would do.

Hope you are having a good weekend, the only thing more frustrating than the stock market is the game of golf.

John

Did you notice someone already has it overclocked to 2.8GHz? This shows the incredible headroom built into this processor. Obviously Intel can release much higher speeds any time they want to. They're just toying with AMD now.

Athlon... What a dog...
