cb, i'm not talking about a single agency with govt connections that can just raise taxes to do whatever the heck they want to do - rational or otherwise.

clearly, the context of my point is macro. anyway, the dod didn't like iridium enough to pay all their bills and prevent bankruptcy.

re: per capita gdp. what is the average wage in china? what % of the people there can afford a $1000 (us) phone from disposable income? what % of folks can afford $1/minute rates?

i guess i didn't realize china's wealth had grown so drastically - and i'm not sure i know it even now. ;-)

re: kiosks. you say this model works. i'd ask for a definition of "works." it didn't keep iridium from bankruptcy. looks like globalstar is going the same route. is losing money with no return on billions in capital investment "working" nowadays? we have such low expectations.
