CB,

Sound advice,

No disrespect was intended to anyone re "the boiler room"

I enjoyed the movie though.

I used to be a shop manager for a legal "bookie" here in the UK. There are three main firms Ladbrooks, Corals, and William Hill.

Nearly all the punters were males. A high percentage of them had a gambling problem, some of them would place thier weeks wages on a hot tip on Saturaday morning. The few females who did put in an appearance usually placed winners. There was one black woman that nearly always placed winning bets on the dogs buy choosing particular traps and betting on doubles "thru the card" (all races that day).

In fact we in the shop (Coral) sometimes would take a tip and send some one running up the street to place bets in a rival firm (William Hill) . We were not allowed to place bets in our own shop as that would tempt fate too much. We had a little private competition with the guys over in William hill as they would place thier bets with us. We took some big slices of the daily take of each other as we were both good at choosing winners. I think the fact that we studied racing 6 days a week, 8 hours a day helped I think. If anyone wanted to become a professional gambler, I recommend getting a job in one of Britains major "Turf accountants" as you get to study the form and get paid at the same time.

pearly.
