Caveat, I am not talking about investing. I am talking about interpreting data to have a better understanding of reality.

20 shirts at $5 is $100, and 5 shirts at $20 is $100. The difference between a $5 shirt and a $20 shirt isn't that great, IMO. The only way to measure the difference is via that bugaboo, hedonic pricing, and I don't want to get into that.

An aggregate measurement like GDP has a hard time keeping up with what people really buy. From buggy whips to automobiles, how to measure?

If medical technology increases people's lives, so they don't die and continue to consume but don't produce, how to measure? If babies don't die in infancy and mothers don't die in childbirth, how to measure? If Dick Cheney has a procedure and stays on as Vice President, how to measure?
