That was the approximate market value of IBM, obviously nothing to do with the real value of the business, IMO. I haven't followed it too closely recently, after having made some small sacrifices to the Put goddess. My reasoning for doing so was that Gerstner was hollowing out the equity of the company by borrowing money that was going to buy back overpriced shares. Even if he had knocked its net worth down to zero, he would have bought back only a small part of the shares.
The market didn't seem to agree with my reasoning. Maybe, some day.....
