Hi FR1,

pat - I saw someone predicting that CSCO will announce a enormous write off of inventory as obsolete and do a big stock buy back. I'm trying to figure if this is a real possibility. What % of CSCO inventory would you consider unable to be sold?

This is an interesting development, and the first I have heard of it. What would the bad inventory consist of? Last fall they were experiencing a severe shortage of parts. Some products had a three month lead time, when 2 weeks was the norm earlier in the year. For a time last year it was difficult to get just about any type of Cisco hardware in a short period of time. Thus, I seriously doubt they had "bad" inventory at that time, since they had no inventory at all.

I would consider bad inventory to be product that cannot be sold. Excess inventory, on the other hand, will work itself out over time. I suspect they have an inventory backup due to the sudden fall off in demand that John Chambers has commented on. I would be very interested to hear what products have become obsolete within the last 5 months.

Regards,

Skier
