P.S. to previous post

I just tried to run RealPlayer for the first time since installing the Norton Firewall, and my machine locked up. No control alt delete, no nothing. Had to use the the switch on my UPS. As realplayer started running, the firewall gave me a message that something was trying to access realplayer on my computer. I hit the button to allow it this one time. The same message came up again, and that is when the system locked up. I'm about to try it again.

Edit: It worked this time: Mark, you might like this audio: realserver.bu.edu:8080/ramgen/w/b/wbur/connection/audio/2001/03/con_0307b.rm

hi quahog

only have a few minutes....

re ""Outbound TCP Connection, "tgcmd Module" blocked. What is this? and should I let it through?"

sounds like an @home file. read this

"I believe tgcmd.exe works to limit the connection bandwidth and sets up the computer to act as a server for the @home people to poke around with at will. Another good reason for the router and an effective firewall"
practicallynetworked.com

if you have @home and your broadband connection works without the above, i'd say to continue blocking.

re ""Default Block Backdoor/SubSeven Trojan" blocked Details:Inbound TCP connection" Should I allow any of these through, and what's the deal with the SubSeven Trojan message. It scared the bejesus out of me."

perfect. it oughta' scare the bejesus out of you. that's the bad guys trying to get in. npf is doing its job there.

there's so much more to cover with npf (and with firewall configuration in general). i really do have to take off for awhile. someone else will post to you on this, plus i'll pick up the thread later.

:)

mark
