My mother had a cousin of her mother die that she never knew. The lady died without a will and a law firm took over as executors. Over many years they dug up 6 relatives. In the end each of the 6 heirs got $6,000. That in itself doesn't mean much but the law firm liquidated the estate and put the money in T-bonds and it was pulling in over $1,000,000 per year in interest. After fees $36k was left. Now there was a cow that got milked dry.
