Not this permabull, mishedlo. I've turned a deaf ear to analysts and pundits, and won't acknowledge a bottom until I can see it in the rear view mirror. Until then I'm king of the front month covered call writers, a very profitable business right now.

Is it plausible that the CEO of a leading CRM outfit would wonder if things are as bad for everyone else as it is for his company? Is it plausible that a leading global telecom giant has reduced its capex budget to ZERO for the rest of the year?
I don't know the answers to those questions. So let's take a look at the new lows list from last week. Hmmm. The tape, it is said, does not lie.
So what is the tape saying? This is NOT an opinion. Let's just look at the tape.

After reading the this week's issue of biz. weeks I will have to agree with you at least about this weeks market action, but the market will start to look beyond what we have now. one little glimer of light out of the likes of CSCO, would end it pronto, more so then anytime during the bear.

Here is some sobering stats.

<<TELECOM
Traffic carried over fiber-optic networks is a staggeringly low 2.5% of capacity. Massive overbuilding and weak demand also spells shakeout for local and long-distance carriers.

SEMICONDUCTORS
Facing a global glut, key manufacturers in Taiwan are operating at 70% of capacity, while global capital-spending plans for this year are down roughly 16%.

COMPUTERS
Everyone from PC, handheld, and server makers to storage companies is getting hit. Palm (PALM ), Compaq (CPQ ), Dell (DELL ), Gateway (GTW ), and Hewlett-Packard (HWP ) have announced layoffs.

AUTOS
Auto makers have added new plants around the globe far faster than sales have grown in recent years. With demand slowing in the U.S., Big Three plant closings are all but certain.

RETAILING
Retailers such as Gap (GPS ) and Ann Taylor (ANN ) have added stores for years--and now that is hurting the sector.

ADVERTISING
Agencies staffed up for the '90s boom; now those copywriters and account execs are growing idle as ad sales shrink. >>
