A key gauge of manufacturing activity in the Chicago region sank to its lowest level in 19 years this month" To which Mr. Greespan would reply, things are not as bad as they seem and there may even be a little inflation to be concerned about. Therefore we are taking an aggressive and hostile watch to avoid another attempt at irrational exhuberance. It is not good for the markets to rally and for investors to enjoy prosperity. Since I am mainly in bonds and CD's and want a prosperous retirement, we need to keep the interest rates high??? Frank
