Jim,

The reason that Venus atmosphere is so heavy with CO2 is because they do not have they do not have the delicate balance of CO2/seawater/limestone present on the earth.

If all the CO2 from limestone in the ocean was released, earth would be just like venus. The nightmare scenario is that global warming causes more release of CO2 from the limestone, creating a feedback loop.

Jim,

Another factoid is that CO2 is not the only greenhouse gas. Methane and plain old clouds are just as important, if not more.

And of course, without greenhouse effect, there would probably be no life on earth, or it would be a lot different.
