You're right, there are *some* people against wind turbines, but turbines aren't all that bad... I'm very much for them, based on my readings so far. however, I would rather see such technologies as solar thermal troughs, which are also competitive w/ conventional energy, and they can be retrofitted into existing power plants, merely replacing the natural gas portion of the system. The troughs direct solar heat to a pipe filled with oil or some other liquid, which in turn heats water and creates the steam necessary to turn the turbines: eren.doe.gov

But I'm not against wind turbines, and I'm quite certain most environmentalists would much rather see those than conventional power plants.
