Ted, And do you know their secret...they spend a much smaller percentage of their budgets on defense. Apparently, their politicians are not quite as paranoid as ours. Apparently their defense spending has not appropriate, since the US had to bail them out on at least 2 occasions within the last 100 years. Joe

Tim, that's where you are wrong...most of Western Europe has a standard of living equal to or better than the US. And do you know their secret...they spend a much smaller percentage of their budgets on defense. Apparently, their politicians are not quite as paranoid as ours. "Standard of living" is subjective so we can argue back and forth about it forever. The US only spends about 3% of our GDP on defense so its not a big factor. The US has a higher GDP per person then the EC even when you subtract triple what we spend on defense from our GDP. We also have higher GNP (which is almost the same thing), and higher personal income. Tim
