However, with the SDMC, I think the problem is that the secure feature is used, NOT to make the user's data more secure against intrusion from others. But rather the secure feature is used to make data secure and restrict it FROM the very person who pays for the SDMC card. What is wrong with this picture? It is like a consumer buying a lock to keep himself locked out from his own property. As Jerry Sienfeld would say: "Not bloody likely!"



Actually, I think that is a great idea, that the SDMC could also include the capability to lock the card yourself. I don't think I've ever seen such a concept suggested; as you say Steve, it all seems to be about selling you something and then restricting it, and even worse charging you every time you use it.
