There is a long history in this country of adjusting research to match expectations. This same kind of readjustment was done in the early days of the IQ tests. When they were first developed, female test takers consistently scored higher than male. The people who developed the test knew that there had to be something wrong with the test because of that, so they adjusted the test so that men would score higher.

That's a great site Mike. Should be required reading for all US Taxpayers. Government now controls 40% of the economy.
