Some Democrats believe that the Republicans have always hated public education and are looking for ways to destroy it. The voucher system is what they favor cause they are sick of sending their kids to private schools and subsidizing the public schools with school property taxes.

The religious right home school their kids to avoid the teaching of evolution, the teaching of tolerance of gays, and in some cases they wish to avoid gym classes ( the dress code for gym is against the religious beliefs of some). These home schoolers would join together and set up religious schools by the bucketload. Unfortunately, many of the teachers would not be qualified. There are examples of this already in Texas.

What amazes me about the Bush education plan is that he wants to set up a program to test every child every year and place teacher raises dependent on the children's performance on the test. Suddenly we have a situation where the federal gov't is controlling the information taught to every student. Hey....I thought the Republicans were looking for a smaller gov't! LOL

Whenever Bush starts talking about doing something for the kids in this country, it's a dead giveaway he is using it to hide something that he doesn't want anyone to discover.

Who could say no to a child?...... I wonder how hard Bush had to rehearse before he gave his speech without laughing.
