It seems to me that's much like giving your kids everything they want just to keep them from crying.

That is the problem. They are a nuclear power that doesn't always sound quite as rational about their use as we would like so we have played patty cake with them for going on 50 years starting with the problems in Korea.

I don't see this particular incident turning into much more then some headlines though IMO

We give the Chinese every reason to believe that their pure numbers can and do influence how we treat them. It is something that I am very familiar with, and it is something that I pretty actively object to on a regular basis.
