It has all the features of a shake-out after a break out.

I beg to to differ. From the charts I have studied, this appears to be the end of a bull market. In essence, it is the quintessential definition of a bear market. Full particiaption by the masses, and a reluctance to sell at a loss, fostered by the long term buy and hold mantra have ensnaired the average participant, which will ensure a steady source of liquidity all the way to the bottom. LTBH will do no better than gov't bonds for years to come. The charts say so.
