Ted as I said before, "standerd of living" is subjective. Factual information like GDP doesn't tell the whole story but it is the only reasonably objective information we have. And when you compare the US to more European countries the difference are so tilted in the USs direction that its fairly obvious the US is richer then most of Europe.

If you take the richest European countries and take the areas that most favor your argument as what gets measured to determine standard of living you can make an argument that a couple of European countries have a higher standard of living, but only in a very few countries and only if you are selective about what you consider can you find any real evidence for this. The poorest countries in Europe or even the middle countries are much poorer. Even if you exclude the worst off in Europe by just counting EC countries the average EC country is unquestionably poorer then America.
