Hi DLO, I see people scratching their heads again now, but it's amazing that so many stocks have still risen in the first quarter of 2001. Look at Foster Wheeler (FWC).

The stinking stocks is up well over 200% in the last thirteen weeks! It's not that much better a company than it was a quarter ago! Maybe it was just over-sold back then.

Of Value Line's 41 Best Performers for the last quarter, there's about 6 that are up more than 100%. One can see by some historical charts that the stocks were pretty low a quarter ago, but still as bad as the market environment has been it's surprising that so many have done so well. It takes a 65% gain just to make it on the list!

I think this is part of what some market "psychologists" have been talking about in that there's really not been "capitulation" as of yet. Well, maybe we won't need it to get the market to turn.

Your experience is similar to mine in that inside my portfolio it's usually been quality companies that suffered harshly that rebounded best.

Best regards, Tom
