Zero sum CO2 contribution:

Agreement to Provide 1.2 Million Gallons of Biodiesel to Fuel Trucks

ONTARIO, CA, April 2, 2001 - The alternative fuels company, Southern States Power Co. Inc., has announced that it has a contractual agreement to provide 1.2 million gallons of biodiesel fuel to Rockland Materials of Arizona, the largest such agreement ever to be assigned. Rockland will use the biodiesel to power its 100 heavy-duty diesel trucks. Furthermore, the trucks can operate on this fuel without the need for any engine modifications.

In line with the US Environmental Protection Agency's push to set stricter clean air standards for diesel engines, Southern States Power also announced that it has recently formed an alliance with soybean farmers in Iowa to use 270 million gallons of soybean oil in biodiesel production. The company quotes industry analysts as saying that right now, small amounts of soyoil are used in biodiesel but within three years as much as two percent of US annual soyoil production might be used in its manufacture.

The news articles I have read had the planes impacting over international waters. Both sides agree on that fact. The plane did land on a Chinese Island after the incident. It is far more likely that the nimble aircraft was at fault. Between a missile and a commercial jet, the missile is the one that impacts, not the jet. A fighter can do over 9G, a cargo plane much less. Big and slow does have its advantages though.

The facts are far and few between but the news is calling it a spy plane and is saying that it is unclear whether it was flying over land or water but was definitely near the coast.

As for the collision, I have to believe the Chinese aircraft bumped it intentionally.... for which I am grateful. Had they shot it done, all hell would have broken lose. I think that had it been a true mid air collision both planes would have crashed.
