Karen,

Do you support stores which keep porn behind the check-out counter, instead of in open view? After all, kids are going to see it anyway.

Do you support laws which prevent minors from attending X rated movie theatres? After all, kids are going to see them anyway.

Do you support laws which prevent porn from being sold on the street corner hand-to-hand? After all, kids are going to see it anyway.

Do you support public schools which refuse to allow porn in their school libraries? After all, kids are going to see it anyway.

Do you support laws which arrest people who sell porn to minors? After all, kids are going to see it anyway.

I could go on, but I think I made my point. Many, many, laws are on the books which reduce the opportunity for children to view porn. When making those laws, no one demanded perfection with the system in order to enact them. So why should we demand perfection with porn detection software in this case?

The answer is we shouldn't. We should as caring thinking adults take reasonable common sense measures which limit the exposure of porn to children. It's as simple as that. Not because kids are going to suffer some horrific emotional disturbance. But because our culture of decency, and civility desire it.

Filters are a reasonable measure. Additional measures may be considered reasonable in the future.
