I do not think it is even necessary to tolerate it without rancor. Toleration is not necessary. The right to think hateful things is protected in our society. What is NOT protected is stepping over the line into the realm of action. Violent or abusive words and actions are not protected. It would be nice if people could be more tolerant but it is the law that they not be abusive.
