BOSTON, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- SGI (NYSE: SGI - news), known worldwide for providing a broad range of high-performance computing and advanced graphics solutions, today announced that it is opening a microprocessor design center in Boston.

Engineers at the Boston microprocessor design center will focus on transistor-level very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuit and mask design. These circuits will be used to power SGI's high-end CPUs based on MIPS® processors, which drive SGI(TM) high-performance servers, supercomputers and graphics systems.
