Well, if Niles is right and this is a repeat of 1985, at least the Fed is on our side, just like it was in 1985.

I have some data dating back to the early 1980's about the performance of semiconductor stocks during the six different occasions that the Fed has cut interest rates three times.

In 1985 the third cut occurred on May 20. Three months later (in August)the average semiconductor stock was up 5%.

Six months later: up 11%
Nine months later: up 35%
One year later: up 36%

The average performance for all six periods after the third rate cut; semi stocks were up 92%. The smallest twelve month gain was 6% after the third rate cut in 1990. The largest gain was 209% one year after the third cut in late 1998 (during the great bull in late 1999).

So, don't let Niles let everyone think it's the end of the world. The Fed is on our side. We had our third rate cut on March 20th this year...let's see what happens this time.

I hope this helps Intel/semiconductor longs,

Doug
