dear richie, the itanium chip? you mean that 1999 Intel chip. Itanium is a dead chip and their performance was blah and the chip is now just a proof of concept that allows early development of software for where Intel will attempt to put out a competitive IA64 architecture. The next members of the IA-64 family are set to be McKinley [CQ] in late 2001, followed by Madison [CQ] in the following year. Of course in the high performance arena Intel has been late and late and late.

With 32 bit cpu's going to 1.5 gigHz the tradeoff advantage of IA64 is a question. (this 5 minutes) As is the problem with alternative energy the problem is energy density. Here the problem is too much and not too little. If you understood the origin 3000 brick architecture you would see the the lateness of the Itanium was a detriment to SGI and now I feel it is not very important. Intel has provided the world with compute engines that are at the core of much advancement. But Intel is now a company that puts more lawyers on joint engineering projects than smaller companies have engineers.

The internet creates a playing field where more solutions can survive as support from users anywhere is available to anyone from anywhere. This is good for mips and Irix and where an architecture has advantages it's long term support cost is lower because of the connectivity of the Internet.

Dear richie, learn to read. IA64 is the architecture and Itanium is the late and non competitive current version Mckinley is the next follow on. That's the jargon of those who follow high performance computing architectures. But I can see how a newbie looking in would think the way you think.

And as you can see from this I have the ability to block out information and data in ways that make it clear and meaningful to others. watman.com

To block out mountains of data and make available in an organized and clear format .....
Of course my zonk shots that show how I created a massively parallel information visualization system.

which is to say stuff which is to say tom.doesntexist.com

richie have you ever had the courage or knowledge to publish your contributions to technology.
