Good point on SIPC. The more you read about it, the more you'll see that it's hopelessly inadequate in the face of widespread broker failure. Here's a couple of reasons why I prefer street name: 1 set of 1099's. If you have a bunch of different issues and do your own taxes, this averts a nightmare. Stay happily married and healthy. You do not want to deal with divvying up the assets with a whole slew of transfer agents. Or maybe you do want to wish that on your heirs - let them earn their inheritance <G>
