I don't understand. What is so inherently worthwhile about data transport on 3G? Why waste spectrum on it? Why not give high data-rate wireless to those users who need it, who will pay for it, and who don't want to spend their time squinting at a phone? Radio networks are much better candidates for the spectrum.

What is the "killer app" for telephony, that requires all this spectrum? News, email, scores, location - all "bursty" data that people will use, easily handled by 2.5G.

But where are the paying customers for all this high-cost, high-tech, gee-whiz 3G stuff?

It's bad enough that everyone has sunk billions of dollars into this unproven assumption. Do we now want to start allocating useful spectrum to the same unproven assumption?
