Political consequences for market declines are directly correlated. Alan Greenspan & Co. have sunk the Republicans' chances for re-election. (Not that it matters much to me.) The market will not recover in time for mid-term elections and Congress will go to the Democrats. The Republicans will clearly be blamed for the unprecedented destruction of wealth in this country's history and Bush will likely be a one-term President.
