Bring It On Streisand Slams ‘Paralyzed’ Dems, Urges Battle Against Bush W A S H I N G T O N, April 2 — Pop legend and liberal activist Barbra Streisand is warning Democrats in Congress that "nice guys finish last," urging them to start taking the fight to President Bush and Republicans. "What has happened to Democrats since the November election," Streisand writes in a letter obtained by the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call. "Some of you seem paralyzed, demoralized and depressed." The letter, Roll Call reports, was "delivered to insiders about a week ago," though Streisand's staff would not confirm who received the letter. Streisand, a strong supporter of the previous administration, derided Democrats for "distancing" themselves from former President Clinton and for letting Republicans "divert attention from the success of his administration over the past eight years." "This is not a time to be weak," she writes. "The public responds to strength." Though she accuses him of stealing the presidency in a "Supreme coup," Streisand compares Bush to former President Reagan, expressing grudging admiration for the strength he has showed in his opening days. "We should have one goal, and that's to win back the House, Senate and presidency," she writes. "Unless we win, we'll be consistently on the defensive with our fingers holding the dyke against the Republican revolution -- Nice guys finish last!
