I am not that well versed but have heard on TechTV that Plextor is about the best you can get. You might want to browse the Techtv site. Either "call for help" or "screensavers" WWW.techtv.com

Bob P.,
I'm a little late here but this might help.

RE> I have a Micron 600 w/256mb of RAM, 2 hard drives, CD DVD

I have an 8X CDRW and a DVD but I can only record at 8x if I copy to my hard drive,
I can only make direct copies at 4X because my DVD is too slow. I regret getting it.
Before you pay extra for a fast burner make sure DVD is a fast enough source so
you don't make the same mistake as me.I'm probably going to put my DVD into my
old computer and put a new CDRom into my new computer.
