Great points!

Back in the archives of my brain I remember that Congress gutted the budget of Clinton's energy Dept. during one of their gov't shut-down confrontations.

It makes me laugh when I hear Bush say that we can't risk being held hostage by other nations with energy resources. What he actually should say is that we can't risk being held hostage by other nations when his friends in our domestic oil and energy business can get the opportunity to do it first! LOL We have plenty of domestic companies that use the OPEC business model of chokehold profiteering.

During the energy crisis of the 70's I was in NYC for a meeting. While driving into the city one morning I saw someone by the side of the road hitchhiking who was dressed up as an Arab. Everyone was honking their horn and laughing. For this crisis he should dress up as GWB!

> Then we got Reagan and Bush, who scuttled these plans. Sure helped their power company pals though.<

absolutely correct... except for the 8 years of what was his name? that saxophone player?

he bears a lot of the blame. It has long been obvious the engergy crisis would return -- and we ain't seen nuthin' yet, folks! Either

--- we find more oil (not infinitely possible) in which case global warming gets much worse (to some extent it's already too late -- what damage has been done will take decade to play out); or

--- we don't, in which case global depression, chaos and war until alternate engergy is in play (a generation after a full time commitment to it).

oh, but I forgot ol' Georgie is President. I don't take joy in him looking impotent when he's trying to act tuff -- he already had warships marching up to China. He'll do something. And we'll wish he didn't.
