gst, i'm not sure how serious you are with your question, but at the risk of sounding like i broken record <g>, i will answer it straightforwardly. :)

lots and lots of money was made on the way up, and lots and lots of money has been lost on the way down. (can you say "bubble?") <g>

so how does one cope and even prosper amidst the mess? can you say "asset allocation?" <gg>

in my particular case, it meant riding the new econ stocks to the hilt, often on margin, between 5/98 and 5/00. and then determining at the latter date that a more balanced strategy was more appropriate. <gg>

but i'm sure folks are sick and tired of that same old refrain from me.

i just don't know how, nor do i want to, divorce my discussion from my own personal experience. because that is what puts my remarks in some kind of context.
