Scott,

When Clinton was President, the US was friends with the whole world. Bush is making enemies with everybody.

What a moron. But at least he doesn't get blow jobs in the oval office, and that is what is really important.

political persuasions from all of the spectrum are urging the Canadian govt to hold firm against what is viewed protectionsit American bullying simply because we're moe successful at lumber..

The April 16th issue of National Review had a small comment on this issue.

"The Bush administration faces an early test of its commitment to free trade. The government maintains a quota on Canadian lumber that, according to an analysis by the Cato Institute, raises prices by 25 to 30 percent. It adds more then $800 to the cost of a home. While the quota may benefit the American logging and sawmill industries, it hurts industries that are heavy consumers of lumber - which emply 30 times as many workers. It also creates a dispute with Canada that makes it harder to work with Ottawa on international free-trade agreements. The quota expires on March 31, but 51 senators have asked the administration to replace it with another trade barrier. Bush should say no."

Apparently the quota has now expired and I don't think a new barrier is in place, but the American lumber companies are still lobbying for one.
