As long as these companies can 1. keep their balance sheets in order, 2. keep their respecitive shares of the market, and 3. show demonstrable ROI they will weather this.

It's a balancing act. This has become a viscous cycle. The entire technology industry eats its own dog food. They employ each others' technology, and so any slowdown in the industry has network effects.

I have no doubt that eventually we will return to rates of growth that will mirror previous cycles, especially since these purchase decisions by enterprises are being delayed, not abandoned, so latent demand is building. For example, you can hear that in Ariba's call last night when they discussed their deal pipeline.

How long the business takes to recover is the primary issue. That is all about confidence.
