burnproof is VERY important. it allows the data to be written to the CD in spurts (thats the best way i can describe it) rather than in a continuous stream. do a search on "buffer underrun" and "burnproof" . I am not sure if buffer underrun is a hardware or software feature but without it you may create a lot of "coasters"

Bob,

I've heard that if you're looking for the best...Plextor with burn proof and Nero burning software are about as good as it gets.

Nero: (you can get it on ebay for about $35)

Edit: Apparently the above link can not be linkified :)

Try this:

Bob

I've been looking at getting a cdrw as well. Every review I have seen says Plextor is the best.

Bob,

I've been looking for CD-RW as well, as part of my new system. I have noticed a couple of brands that might be good that are less money than the Plextor. Plextor seems to be the standard.

From PriceWatch - Ricoh brand for $137 with Nero software:
RETAIL BOX!!RW7120A INTERNAL ATAPI 12X10X32X CD-RW DRIVE
MUST MENTION PRICE WATCH - W/ NERO SOFTWARE BLANK CD AND CABLES

From PriceWatch for $121 for Lite On brand:
12x CD-record, 10x CD-rewrite, 32x CD-read, BURN PROOF, w/ cable/ADAPTEC Software.

Plextor is going for $178.

I was leaning toward the Lite On, but if you say the Adaptec software is not good, maybe it would be worth it to spring for the Ricoh.
