I think that instead of politics it is a problem of 'a check of reality' and this huge divergence in what economy says is happening and what companies are saying, ARBA BVSN AXP since yesterday are being talked about as the leading companies making short fall announcements, 687 companies have made them so far more are said to be in line and the people who are buying are establishing quiet positions.

SSB today increased the allocation by 5% to 70% and they suffered a huge blow with Ike, in my opinion, now shorts will make an attempt to take out the next 1080 level to see that 975 of Ovestus.. this is going to be one hell of a market and very interesting one too, a lot of fortune would be made a lot will be lost and in our case already is lost gg, the question is which side you are on.. so far we are the losers..but I cannot say that for far too long..This is just the beginning of the bear as I would put it ... an effort to break the old low of DOW at 9100 level or SPX 1080- and for us it is our effort to keep long calls 6-8 months out to see if this can be helpful..

"He dealt with it by ignoring it."

What was he supposed to do? It's a state problem, he's a federal executive. Does he force everybody to pay for the policies Californians supported? (Should taxpayers at large bail out individual investors like myself who have losses?) Or should he add a morass of additional federal regulations on top of the California regulations, deceptively called "deregulation!" that caused the problem in the first place, or what? He can't revoke state laws, and he can't order back-payment of utility bills. He also can't cause additional capacity to have been built years ago.

What should Bush have done?
