Iowaman Sez: (Also Zen's comments)

"There is nothing morally wrong with shorting. We're not cheering the market down. It's already doing that. We are just playing it the direction it is going."

I have to ask, "What CAUSES those directions? The weather?"

I am more concerned with Zen's comments about how buying long does not have an effect on the company. I thought buying stock gave me a share of "ownership" in the company. It gives me a voice in its decision-making process, and my voice is as loud as the amount of the company I own.

Companies also seem very concerned about their stock price.
Would they be that concerned if the stock were not theirs?
They can buy it back and put it out at their discretion, but don't they SELL the stock to the market makers? Or do they just give it away? Isn't the price of the stock based on the PERCEIVED worth of the company?

I know that market makers are "middle men" between the company and the stockholder, but I still can't see that I'm not investing in the company.

Have I been a riverboat gambler for forty years??????
Duh,
