After listening to the Ariba CC (as closely as I could, given I'm neither a shareholder nor familiar with their business), I found it unenlightening. My impression is that if this company has a competitive advantage, then the focus of the investor ought to be on how they can strengthen that position in the face of a potentially extended downturn in the economy. If they have the right combination of revenues, cost-cutting, and balance sheet, then the last two things they need to come out ahead of their competition is great strategy and excellent management.

My shares of RATL have been absolutely pummeled (what software stock has not been, besides perhaps MSFT?), but I am comfortable (do I dare use that word?) with their management, business, and balance sheet.
