Opalapril - I could see flying over Chinese airspace in a U-2 when you don't think that missiles can shoot you down, and it then becomes an embarassment when they do.
But why fly over Chinese airspace in a blundering prop lane? It doesn't make sense if they did. Maybe the issue is that China claims they whole bay as their airspace and the US just claims 12 miles off shore as international airspace. Maybe we'll get some more details.

>>>That's why it is expected the pilots should die<<<

Having been involved in the Air Force and having been in a military family and being a gentleman I will save the thread's time from telling you what I really think of that stupid statement.

The Chinese will posture here and will demand a host of things...probably pound on about the 200 mile territorial limit, making us stop the aerial spying, and hold some economic blackmail over us. Regardless, this is bordering on a crisis and I have a gut feeling this is going to get a lot worse. First thing that needs to happen is that economic investments in China need to pass the security concerns of the United States before they are allowed to go any further.

Uh..."expected" to die is a wee bit strong, don't you think?

Ok, so it was a different branch of the Armed Forces, but I distinctly remember my drill sergeant telling me it wasn't my job to die for my country, it was my job to make the other guy die for his.
