I think that if people realized that 'New Democrat' very nearly equals 'Compassionate Conservative', then we would have less posturing and fighting, and more solutions.

I realize my handgun position is extreme, even radical. I'd settle for much less; better regulation, better gun locks.

I think Lieberman demonstrated something that goes on in business all the time. Managers are asked to 'toe the line' and get behind upper management decisions, even if they don't agree with them. What's worse, much of the time it is up to the manager to 'talk the talk' to their employees. In my experience, very few managers quit because they disagree with upper manager decisions; most just 'toe the line'. I've done it; it's what is expected in business management. So, although I see it as distasteful, I guess I'm not one to criticize.

The argument that a politician would give you is: how can I effectively represent the needs of my constituents if I become powerless because I won't play 'the game'. 'The game' is so much a part of politics; toe the party line, scratch my back I'll do yours, obey the pecking order, etc. With rules like this, it's amazing that ANYTHING get done in Washington (well, anything productive).

On the web sites: I noticed that during my 2nd amendment research. There are TONS of pro-gun 2nd amendment sites out there; they outnumber gun control sites by at least 30, 40, 50 to 1. Got to hand it to the right; Gore may have invented the internet, but the Right seems to have co-opted it. :)
