Carolyn, An SSN (SSBN, also called a Boomer) is a ballistic (long range nuclear) missile launching sub. There are basically two types of subs in the world's collective navies; the ballistic missile and the attack sub, whose primary duty is to shadow and destroy the ballistic types, as well as surface shipping and other attack types. This is a great over simplification of their respective roles. Don't say "ok I'm a woman"...So is Condaleeza Rice, and she is brilliant in these "guy stuff" arena's. Ron :)
