What’s the best guess about the reason for the call?

In making guesses, not to mention speculating on the stock prior to the call, let me help by parsing the CC announcement.

We know it has nothing to do with financial performance, warnings or the like – because they said so. This means the call has something to do with a big deal, big enough and complex enough that issuing a mere news release cannot do it justice. That must be good or else WIND wouldn’t do the deal.

Now, let’s parse. First, it is NOT a conference call; is an INTERNATIONAL conference call. What is an INTERNATIONAL conference call? Since we live in a global community, all ordinary conference calls are international in that people call in from all over the world, yet we don’t call ordinary conference calls “international.” To be an international conference call, it means that some of the WIND participants are located in Alameda and some must be located in another country.

That means the “others” besides TSD and Jerry Fiddler on the call are not “other executives” in WIND, but rather other executives in another international company headquartered outside the U.S. And that makes sense since WIND has never referred to its other key executives as simply “others”.

A conference call with TSD and Jerry and officials from an international company means the deal is very broad, not just some kind of product development. A broad deal presented by our Chairman and CEO and their counterparts suggests some kind of major partnering, equity deal, buyout or something similar with an international company.

If I were to guess, it smacks of a major involvement with a company like Sony. The implications are significant (hence the CC) and not trivial to appreciate fully (hence the slideshow).

The only weakness I can find with my parse is that the time of the CC in Japan would be in the wee hours of the morning. Would high-level Japanese officials be so enthusiastic about the deal as to sacrifice a good night’s sleep? If so, then the deal must be big indeed.

On the other hand, the time in Europe would be late at night, but still within reason for busy executives putting to bed an important deal. The difference in the local times in Japan and Europe persuades me to lean in favor of a major deal with a European company like Alcaltel, Nokia or Ericsson.

In any case, it looks like a very positive announcement is in the cards. We’ll see.

Allen

Anyone have any guesses as to whether they are buying (and, if so, who) or if someone is buying them?

Wonder what the call is about...Hopefully it's good, the stock can't handle any bad news or dilutive aquisitions right now. At least it's not a earnings warning of some kind.

Here is a long-term log chart of the Nasdaq...

host.wallstreetcity.com;

The long-term trend line from the low of the 70s thru the low of the 90s comes out around 1200 today. If I was looking at this as an individual stock chart I would say the stock would be sure to come back to that long-term trend line. Maybe not directly, there could be further gyrations on the way.

Any comments on what would happen to WIND if the Naz does this?
