re: IMO, trying to find a bottom in INTC using a PE ratio is a rather fruitless exercise, because nobody has any idea where the E is going to be.

More so now than ever. That's why I called it "a point of reference", PE is a historical point of reference not a forward looking predictor. The challenge of course is to anticipate earnings, and place a value on Intel based on it's past value perception.

re: Analysts started publishing 2002 estimates en masse just 3 months ago, and that short time ago, they thought that Intel would earn $1.35 in 2002. (At that time, the 2001 estimate was still $1.05.)

There has been revised guidance from Intel, it's not as if they were coming to these conclusions independently.
