>> Ericsson Signs $400 Million China Deals

Thursday April 05, 2001
Reuters

Swedish telecoms equipment producer Ericsson (ERICY) said on Thursday it had signed contracts in China worth $400 million to provide GSM and other network projects.

Ericsson will supply Shandong Telecom with technology for its inner city broadband information networks, and China Telecom with similar "backbone router" equipment for a data communications expansion project. China Telecom's Jiangsu Mobile unit has also ordered backbone routers.

Backbone routers are switching devices that handle information traffic on the main artery of a communications network, the backbone, which uses the highest-speed and often longest paths in the network.

Ericsson will also supply equipment and services for GSM mobile phone networks in Shandong province, where it is the sole GSM supplier, and a set of assorted mobile equipment sales to China Unicom unit Yunnan Unicom and several regional mobile units of China Telecom. <<
