Wishful thinking. The real problem Carter had was that he had established himself as a wimp on Cold War issues. He was soon replaced by the guy who won the Cold War...

Nah. Not a big problem but serious none the less. Personally, I would have started the bombing of Hainan this AM and would continue to target Chinese military installations until our people and our plane are returned. The Chinese leadership collectively are a bunch of brutal thugs who only understand force. JLA

KEP, Just as long as you realize these situations can arise during any administration. Your post seemed to infer that hostage situations happened only to Republican administrations. One thing, for sure, Bush will not launch a stupid rescue mission that lost us a bunch of helos, and cost us a ton of embarrassment. If, or when, we go in, it will be decisive action.
